Court rejects girl’s plea to ‘settle’ sex abuse case

Refusing to accept a 17-year-old girl’s affidavit saying that she had “settled the matter amicably” with her 45-year-old neighbour who is in jail for repeatedly sexually abusing her, a special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court recently rejected his bail plea and said that being a child she was not mature enough to understand the consequences of such a step. The court also pointed out that her parents were not present before it to support her stand.
