Mulund escalator mishap: Kid loses 3 fingers

A 22-month-old toddler lost three of his right hand fingers in a freak escalator mishap at R-Mall in Mulund (West) on Tuesday. Chinmay Rajiwade’s fingers got stuck in a gap in a down escalator’s handrail when he tried to climb on to it on the ground floor. His father Ravindra, an autorickshsaw driver, rushed him to KEM Hospital in Parel as he was unable to afford the fees quoted by a private hospital. But the toddler’s middle, ring and little fingers could not be reattached. On Thursday, Mulund police registered an FIR against persons responsible for operating the escalator.
