Covid, reviving economy top prios for chief secy

Sanjay Kumar, 59, takes over the reins of the state bureaucracy from outgoing chief secretary Ajoy Mehta, on Tuesday, at a critical juncture. The state is in the grip of a pandemic, economic activity has slowed down and the debt burden has crossed the Rs 5.02-lakh crore mark. An IAS officer of the 1984 batch, Sanjay Kumar speaks to Prafulla Marpakwar on the challenges ahead and his plans to tackle them. Sanjay Kumar, who is due to retire on February 28, 2021, has a tenure of eight months unless he gets an extension like most of his predecessors.
