Covid-19: New subvariant driving US surge found in Maha

The fast-spreading Omicron subvariant, BA 2.12.1, which is currently driving the surge in the US, has been detected in some samples in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, reports Sumitra Deb Roy. Though its spread is limited for now, states have been asked to strengthen genome sequencing to keep track of emerging variants.
