After boom during Covid, chemists' profits plunge

Lal Shankar recently closed his 15-month-old chemist store after sustaining heavy loss for six months. A pharmacy graduate who always wanted to run a drugstore, Shankar took the plunge during the pandemic, but profits ran out early this year as the demand for medicines normalised. The Dahisar shop is not the only one to go through a rapid boom-and-bust cycle in the city's pharmacy retail business.
